To Our Valued Patient,

In 2015, IUI treatments ceased to be funded by OHIP, and became part of the provincial Ontario Fertility Program (OFP).  This change resulted in there being a fixed number of funded IUI cycles available per clinic.

This year, demand for IUI treatments will exceed the amount of funding we received from OFP and we expect funding will be used up before the end of 2018.   Once funding is used up, we will not be able to offer funded IUI treatments until April 1, 2019, which is when we expect to receive our next cycle of annual funding for this program.   Please be aware of your options:

How does this affect you?

As of mid-November, patients who call to start an IUI cycle will be asked to pay for the full costs of the IUI cycle.

Patients have the following options:

  1. Start your IUI cycle by paying the $725 IUI fee that would otherwise have been covered by OFP in addition to the $500 lab fee and any medications.
  2. Defer your IUI cycle until April 2019 when we expect OFP funding will be available again. In this case, expect to start a cycle in mid-March with the IUI procedure falling in April
  3. Discuss with your physician, the possibility of doing an IVF cycle – or alternate treatment option, if available.

If you have questions about the Ontario Fertility Program (OFP), please refer to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care website at www.ontario.ca/page/get-fertility-treatments.     If you have questions for your doctor about your treatment options, please contact the office of your fertility specialist directly.

Sincerely,

Mount Sinai Fertility Team
