Update on IUI Funding for 2018
In 2015, IUI treatments ceased to be funded by OHIP, and became part of the provincial Ontario Fertility Program (OFP). This change resulted in a limited allocation per year for funded IUI treatments.
This year, the demand for IUI treatments exceeded the amount of funding we received from the OFP program.
The funding for IUI cycles is anticipated to be exhausted by December 2018 until the next fiscal year resumes in April 2019. More information will be provided closer to this time.
How will this affect me?
If you are currently pursuing an IUI cycle which will conclude before funding is depleted, nothing will change for that cycle.
If you are considering IUI at our clinic between December 2018 and March 31, 2019 you have the following options:
- Defer your IUI cycle until April 2019 when OFP funding is expected to be made available again.
- Start your IUI cycle between December 2018 and March 31, 2019 by paying $1,225 ($725 for IUI cost that would otherwise be covered by OFP and $500 sample processing fee which applies regardless of funding)
- Discuss the possibility of an IVF cycle or ‘timed intercourse’ cycle with your physician.
