Ontario helping more people start and grow their families

The Ontario government has just announced that it is investing $150 million over two years to expand the Ontario Fertility Program (OFP). This investment aims to reduce waitlists and triple the number of families accessing government-funded fertility services in both hospitals and community clinics. The expansion will provide patients with more options to receive treatment closer to home.

Additionally, a new tax credit, effective January 2025, will cover up to 25% of eligible expenses, including IVF cycles, fertility medications, and travel costs, up to a maximum of $5,000 annually. This is designed to ease the financial burden for families pursuing fertility treatments.

Deputy Premier Sylvia Jones expressed the importance of the program, stating, “Everyone in Ontario, no matter their economic means, deserves the special chance at parenthood.”

The expansion was also praised by Dr. Kim Liu, Medical Director at Mount Sinai Fertility, who said, “Today’s announcement is a big step in improving access and reducing financial barriers for fertility patients. Thank you for putting patients first and helping them take this next step towards building their families.”

We are grateful to the Ontario Government for their on-going support of fertility care for the people of Ontario. We will learn more about the details of this funding in the coming weeks and how it might positively impact your care at Mount Sinai Fertility.
