A Pioneering Spirit in Reproductive Health
Dr. Ellen Greenblatt served as the Head of the Mount Sinai Hospital Division of Reproductive Sciences. She was Medical Director of the Clinical Program in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Mount Sinai Hospital, from 2001 – June 2020. With a profound commitment to the family creation journey, she embodies the spirit of hope and relentless pursuit of success in fertility treatments. Dr. Greenblatt’s philosophy is deeply rooted in empathy and understanding: “I’m inspired by my patients’ commitment to start a family. It’s honest and pure, making me invest whole-heartedly to help them achieve their goals.” This sentiment echoes the values we hold dear at Mount Sinai Fertility, where every patient’s dream is treated with the utmost respect and dedication. Dr Greenblatt’s clinical passion led her to create one of the first programs in Canada in fertility preservation for women diagnosed with cancer, whose treatment puts them at risk of future infertility or sterilization (Oncofertility program 2003)
An Illustrious Educational and Professional Background
As a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with the University of Toronto, Dr. Greenblatt has been instrumental in shaping the future of fertility medicine through education and mentorship. Her leadership transcends the classroom, having served as the National Director of the Canadian Fertility Andrology Society from 2004 to 2007, and continuing to influence the field through her involvement in various committees and advisory panels. Dr. Greenblatt’s expertise is recognized nationally and internationally, evidenced by her fellowship status with both the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (OB-GYN) and the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), including a subspecialty certification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. As a leader in the field, Dr Greenblatt was recognized in 2010 as a “Founder in Gynecologic Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility” (GREI) by the Royal College of Canada as a fellow who has been instrumental in the creation of a new discipline. In Sept 2019 Dr Greenblatt was the first woman recipient of the CFAS Award of Excellence for someone who has provided an outstanding contribution to and demonstrated leadership in, the field of Reproductive Medicine and Science.

Under Dr. Greenblatt’s former leadership and ongoing mentorship. , Mount Sinai Fertility continues to break new ground in translational research, focusing on innovative ways to improve access to fertility treatments for all who need them. Her work extends beyond our clinic walls, serving a vital role on The CARTR Plus Steering Committee of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society that tracks measures of outcomes from all IVF cycles across the country.
