New BMJ Publication: Fertility Guidance for Primary Care Providers
Mount Sinai Fertility is proud to share a recent publication in The BMJ, co-authored by Dr. Claire Jones, staff physician at Mount Sinai Fertility, and Dr. Akanksha Kulshreshtha, a GREI resident with the University of Toronto. This important paper offers clear, evidence-based guidance for primary care providers managing patients with concerns about infertility.
Originally envisioned as a “Choosing Wisely” article on fertility medicine, the project evolved into a practical resource outlining when and how to investigate infertility in primary care, and when to refer to a fertility specialist. The paper addresses common fertility pathways, including ovulation induction, and early referral for intrauterine insemination (IUI) or IVF when appropriate.
The publication emphasizes resource stewardship, aiming to reduce unnecessary testing while ensuring timely access to effective fertility care. Collaborators included Dr. Karen Born from IHPME and Dr. Katiyar, who contributed valuable international insight.
This work supports improved access to fertility treatment across Canada and globally, reinforcing the leadership of Mount Sinai Fertility in advancing reproductive health.
